Reaching for the Stars with a Solid Foundation
 

TAR College A Levels students once again proved their mettle in obtaining high scores for the AS and A2 levels of the Cambridge A Level Examinations. Twenty students got 3As and above and among these, three students obtained 4 A *.

The School of Pre-University Studies (SPUS) organised an Award Ceremony held at DKE of the KL Main Campus on the 20th of August 2010 to recognise the student achievers. Tan Chik Heok, Principal of TAR College presented certificates to the achievers and said in his congratulatory speech, “Whatever you achieve in life, no matter how great or small, you should always remain humble.”

One of the proud parents present at the ceremony was Mr. Wong Kok Yong, the Head of Division (Mathematics & Statistics), TAR College whose daughter, Wong Ying Hui, scored 3As for Maths, Physics and Chemistry. The proud father praised her for her independence and diligence in striving to obtain good results and acknowledged the support of her lecturers.

The top scorers commended TAR College for the good guidance, facilities and pastoral care.  Kok Jo Hua, a 4 A * top scorer eagerly commented that TAR College lecturers have been extremely helpful throughout his studies and that they were always there whenever he needed assistance.  He added that the College also has an excellent learning environment and a great library with all the books required by its students.

Ishreen Kaur Dhillon, another 4 A * top scorer who plans to study the medical sciences added, “I feel that the most important step in any major accomplishment is setting a specific goal.  The conducive environment in the College plus the support of my peers and lecturers’ keep me motivated and focused on my goal.” A fellow student, Dhasvani Jaindren who also scored 4As agreed with Ishreen’s views and added that the A level is definitely in a whole different league as compared to SPM and demands effective time management  and constant revision.

“Early preparation and studying in a group helped me to do well in the examination”, said Cheah Mint Lii who also scored 4 A *. This girl who plans to study Pharmacy in Manchester University vouched for such a learning method and did well.

These achievements mirror the College excellence in holistic education that nurtures young minds with a solid grounding for tertiary studies. TAR College has proven again that its quality teaching and learning helps produce achievers in the Cambridge A levels which is an internationally recognised qualification to degree courses worldwide.
