For the fifth consecutive time TAR College students have won the championship title at the state level Pertandingan Pengisahan Kenegaraan 2010 peringkat Wilayah Persekutuan. The win is something that the College can be proud of because the champion team consisting of Raja Sarah Maziya binti Raja Mohamood, Lim Soon Vin, and Puvanamala Sivavikkraman from School of Pre-University Studies delivered a performance that was so astoundingly dynamic and mesmerizing that it drew loud applause from the audience. Their piece was about the courageous struggle of Dato Maharajalela, a prominent independence fighter in Pasir Salak.
“The challenge was to come up with a catchy narrative so that the audience would sit up to listen and watch our performance”, said Lim Soon Vin of the champion team who was inspired by the writings of A Samad Said as he grew up. This talented lad wrote the script in two hours.
Another contestant of the winning team, Puvanamala said: “TAR College aided us tremendously in preparing for the competition. Our lecturers gave us constructive criticism which helped us to improve our performance and we were ferried to Muzium Negara a number of times for practice.”
TAR College sent three teams of students to participate in the competition held in Auditorium Muzium Malaysia on 22 May 2010. The participating teams won the first prize and two consolation prizes. The champion team were given the Piala Citra Gemilang, a cash reward of RM2,000 a book, a plaque and a certificate each. They will represent Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur at the national level of the competition in Terengganu.
The two other teams from the College won the consolation prizes with their inspiring stories on patriotic values. The team consisting of Chen Kim Mun, Chow Fei Ling and Shalanee Devi A/P Suppiramaniam from School of Business Studies delivered a piece on the late Tunku Abdul Rahman while the team comprising Lim Pit Feng, Ravi A/L Krishnan and Dhinesh A/L Mohan from School of Pre-University Studies narrated a story on national independence. Their performance imparted the valuable patriotic values that should always be the life-pulse of our country. As the country steers itself forward in the face of global challenges, the love for the country is the one spirit that will help empower the nation.
Fostering the spirit of nationalism has always been a conscious effort taken by the College to enhance unity in the midst of diversities. The College is proud to be able to take part in such an event and looks forward to any opportunities to further expose the students to competitions and events such as this that would help cultivate the needful values in the students, besides inculcating effective communication skills and team building in them.
