RM 75,000 Contribution to Set Up the Tun Tan Siew Sin Book Loan Scheme

Mdm Tan Siok Choo, the daughter of the late Tun Tan Siew Sin launched a Book Loan Scheme at the TAR College Library on 10 August 2009. The Scheme was named after her father, the late Tun Tan Siew Sin who was the College Founder and first President.

The Tun Tan Siew Sin Book Loan Scheme, made possible through the contribution of RM75,000 from Madam Tan, is the first of its kind in the College in terms of book loan assistance to the TAR College students. A total of 503 books in the areas of accounting, finance, investment and economics have been purchased, making it possible for the students to loan these books for an extended period of time.

Madam Tan also presented the books to selected student representatives and advised students to cultivate good reading habits by reading regularly. She recalled that her late father had always encouraged her to read books and frequently purchased books for the family.

This Scheme is most timely for needy students, who along the course of their studies might not have enough financial means to simultaneously purchase expensive textbooks and finance their own daily expenses.

Dr Tan Chik Heok, in his speech, added that this Scheme, launched during the College 40th anniversary resonates with historic significance as the late Tun Tan Siew Sin’s core value is to help needy and deserving students to get a higher education. He advised the pioneer recipients of the Scheme to work harder and to continue with the Founder’s legacy of helping others for the betterment of our society.

Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, the College Council Chairman also presented a picture-framed photograph of the late Tun Tan Siew Sin, as a token of appreciation to Madam Tan.
