Orientation Week Helps TAR College Freshies Kick-Start Campus Life

More than 7,500 new Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) students had heaps of rumble tumble fun and enjoyed informative sessions when they were welcomed to the College KL Main Campus during the Orientation Week held last month.

Various interesting activities such as telematches and games, workshops, KL tour and talent competitions provided an excellent platform for the freshmen to familiarize themselves with campus life and establish new friendships.

TAR College Council Chairman YB Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting who officiated the Mass Call ceremony in his speech said that TAR College had a good reputation built by its graduates, who were well-known for being hardworking, responsible, innovative, reliable and honest.

He also urged the new students to develop such positive characters and said that the College was staunchly dedicated to provide a conducive learning environment to foster the development of such characters.

The Society Day that was held during the Orientation Week saw the students eagerly browsing, choosing, and signing-up for extra-curricular programmes. They were 84 academic and non-academic society booths, such as Accounting Society, Photography Society, Kungfu Recreational Club and Community Sociology Advisory Group, which offered a variety of student activities that help students develop skills and build social networks.

Besides that, the Adjustment to College Life (ATCL) workshop that featured group discussions and experience-sharing sessions by the senior students also provided the freshies with valuable advice and insight into the life as a student.

Public Relations student Kevin Lim, one of the participants of the ATCL workshop, said that his participation in the workshop and other Orientation Week activities helped him to get rid of his feeling of insecurity. “I was experiencing culture shock during my first few days at the College but now I no longer feel much of that!” he enthused.

Multimedia student Noorashikin binti Jayaindra, found the workshop helpful as it brought up some relevant issues such as challenges and struggles faced by new students. “I got to meet new friends and learn how to communicate with people from other backgrounds during the workshop. Besides that, the sharing and advice given by the seniors were helpful in preparing me for the new learning environment,” said Noorashikin.
