Kuala Lumpur, May 27, 2009 – Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) and Gamuda Berhad launched the Trainee Quantity Surveyors (TQS)
Programme today at the College Main Campus in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
This collaboration reflects TAR College ongoing initiatives to innovate academia–industry links to enhance its programme offerings and
pioneer new learning approaches for the ever-changing market needs. With over 40 years of expertise as an education provider and trainer of
human capital development, TAR College is the choice institution to provide quantity survey training to selected Gamuda trainees on a part
time basis.
The ceremony was launched by the Deputy Minister of Education,YB Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong in the presence of the Executive Director of Gamuda
Berhad, Mr Ng Kee Leen and Principal of TAR College, Dr Tan Chik Heok.
Datuk Dr Wee in his speech commended the TAR College–Gamuda collaboration for bringing the best of both worlds in terms of job training
experience and academic support to the employees.
“It (the collaborative effort) helps to address the growing need for quantity surveyors in our economy,” said Datuk Dr Wee. TAR College
Principal, Dr Tan in his speech highlighted that this integrated learning model will benefit the trainees; multifold in terms of putting
theories to practice in workplace, mentoring from the immediate supervisor, reflecting and linking actual work practice to classroom
knowledge in a learner-centered environment with lecturer’s guidance and feedback.
He also added that the College has a long term commitment to develop strategic ties with industry and professional bodies to formulate
educational and training strategies and curriculum development to provide dynamic learning for College students and graduates.
The inaugural class consisting of 21 Gamuda staff would commence this weekend. The enthusiastic Gamuda trainees looked forward to the
opportunity to learn from this programme that will be conducted in the TAR College full-fledged Campus with comprehensive facilities. There
will also be a two-day orientation programme for the new trainees.
