Kuala Lumpur, May 4, 2009 – Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) Council Chairman YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting received a donation of one million Ringgit from Y Bhg Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of Resorts World Berhad (RWB) to set up the TARC–Tan Sri (Dr.) Lim Goh Tong Student Loan Fund.
In his speech, Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting paid a glowing tribute to the late Tan Sri (Dr.) Lim Goh Tong, and added that with the new Student Loan Fund, TAR College can further its assistance to deserving students who require financial help for their tertiary education.
Over the years, the College has given a total loan value of RM 16.8 million to 9,684 deserving students. In the 2008/09 academic year alone, about five million Ringgit worth of TAR College Merit Scholarships have been awarded to 1,796 students with outstanding results.
MCA President and Transport Minister YB Dato Sri Ong Tee Keat, who was also present at the launch, expressed pride that TAR College, a brainchild of MCA has become a reputable and respectable institution of higher learning. Over the past four decades, the College has produced over 140,000 alumni, many of whom are captains of industries, professional and leaders in the corporate world.
