TAR College: 40 Years of Academic Excellence

Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) Council Chairman Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting today unveiled the College 40th anniversary logo as it celebrates four decades of academic excellence.

“40 years is indeed an important milestone to be given recognition for an educational institution,” said Ong.

TAR College student population has grown from an initial enrolment of 764 in 1969 to more than 26,000 students today. To date, the College has produced more than 140,000 graduates.

“As one of the premier institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, the College has established a strong tradition in offering quality courses that are widely recognised by universities and professional bodies locally and abroad.” he said.

Ong, who is also an alumnus of the College, said this when launching TAR College Open Day at its Main Campus in Setapak and before unveiling the 40th anniversary logo, in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations.

He paid tribute to the foresight of the College founding fathers, especially former MCA and College President, the late Tun Tan Siew Sin, on the setting up of an affordable higher educational institution for all Malaysians.

Ong also commended the College for advocating an all-rounded education through “integration of scholastic studies and experiential learning”, in order to “ensure that its graduates are employment-ready and able to meet the market’s requirements.”

Ong later toured a mini pictorial exhibition being held in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations. He was accompanied by TAR College Principal Dr Tan Chik Heok and other senior college officials.

The exhibition showcases the illustrious history of the College and takes viewers through a journey back in time since the early days of establishment to the current recognition as one of the premier institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. It presents memorable key events through a collection of photographs throughout the four decades, highlighting the numerous major events that had shaped the College into what it is today.
