Awesome Feats by TARC Twosome

8 November 2008 was definitely a day to remember for Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) financial accounting graduates Cheah Sze Ling and Rebecca Chan Ling Ling as they went through an unusual experience of graduating twice on the same day.

They had to rush to the College’s Main Campus in Setapak to attend the TARC Advanced Diploma Convocation right after they attended the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Graduation Ceremony which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in the morning.

The twosome, who completed the ACCA professional qualification simultaneously with their TARC Advanced Diploma studies, made the College as well as their families and friends proud when they emerged the first two ACCA Top Affiliates in Malaysia in the June 2008 ACCA examination.

Cheah grabbed the number one spot of the ACCA Top Affiliate while Chan took the second place. Both of them were also ranked first in Malaysia and second in the world for the ACCA professional level papers, namely the Advanced Financial Reporting paper and the Advanced Performance Management paper respectively.

Indeed, this is not their first time winning an ACCA subject prize as both of them also emerged top in Malaysia for a professional level paper in last year’s December ACCA examination.

In addition to that, two TARC business management graduates Woo Vi Dea and Gan Shiaw Fong also did exceptionally well in this year’s June ICSA professional examination and grabbed three out of the four prizes awarded to the top performers.

Speaking at the TARC Advanced Diploma Convocation, TARC Council Chairman Y.B. Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting said that the fact that TARC students consistently attain great achievements in various international examinations and intervarsity competitions is an excellent testimony of the fine education and rigorous training that they received from the College.

In fact, TARC graduates have garnered great reputation and they are also highly sought after by employers of various industries.

One good example that backs up such a claim is the fact that Cheah has started her employment with Ernst and Young as Audit Associate after the completion of her studies in June this year. On the other hand, Chan has also secured a post of a tax consultant assistant at KPMG.

In this year alone, TARC has produced a total of 8,362 graduates in advanced diploma, diploma and certificate studies.
