TARC Students Showcase Stunning Designs at Fashion Show

Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) Fashion Design students showcased an array of dazzling and exquisite designs at the TARC Fashion Show 2007 on 19 April 2007.

The students strutted their designer skills and creativity with stunning and glittering designs featuring three garments, namely casual, evening and avant-garde.

Models graced the catwalk with 60 pieces of eye-catching creations by the students, attracting admiring glances from the enthusiastic audience.

The show comprised works of 20 final year students from the Diploma in Fashion Design – a programme offered by the School of Social Science and Humanities (SSH).

Themed Passion for Fashion, the glitzy fashion show was organised in conjunction with the Adsion (Advertising and Fashion) Shows 2007 by the SSH.

TARC Principal Yoong Lai Thye said while the designs were final year projects by the students, the fashion show served as a platform for the students to professionally exhibit their creations.

“This vibrant event is part of the course requirement which allows our students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in their studies here,” she said when opening the fashion show at the College’s main campus in Setapak.

She said courses offered by TARC combine creative, practical and intellectual approaches to provide its graduates with extra edge to excel in the local and international industry.

“In line with our mission to provide wholesome education, we encourage our students to organise and participate actively in beneficial events. This fashion show will help them to hone their skills in event management, teamwork, communication and other soft skills,” she said.

Yoong said although the Fashion Design course was relatively new, the College was proud of the students’ achievements, as they have shown great potential.

“Last year, they won the First Runner up in the Levi’s Jeans Design Competition. And in the Piala Endon Batik Design Competition, our young talents advanced until the semi-finals,” she said.

Yoong also expressed her confidence that the fashion show would stimulate talents and provide students “first hand experience and a taste of the glamorous fashion industry.”

Another event organised by the SSH students – also in conjunction with the Adsion Shows – is the two-day Corporate Commercial Exhibition, which ended on 20 April 2007.

It involved the Diploma in Mass Communication (Advertising and Graphic Design) students.

The exhibition was part of the students’ coursework requirements and aimed to develop skills in managing campaigns, promotions and developing creative advertisements.
