TARCians Triumph at Three Inter-Varsity Competitions

Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) business programme students bagged top places at three intervarsity competitions defeating their rivals from other local institutions of higher learning.

Pitted against the best in the country and despite facing strong competition, the students from the School of Business Studies (SBS) rose to the challenge and emerged as champions in the three competitions.

In the University of Malaya - Citigroup Intervarsity Case Challenge 2006, two teams from the SBS triumphed in the competition emerging as champion and first runner-up respectively.

Other teams from the SBS were also victorious in two other competitions, winning the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Investment Quiz 2006 and the Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz 2005.

A large haul: TAR College winning team posing with the top prize bagged at the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Investment Quiz 2006.   TAR College is the best among the best by winning the Universiti Malaya-Citigroup Intervarsity Case Challenge 2006.

The Intervarsity Case Challenge 2006 winning team leader, Anna Tan, said, "Our team was able to apply what we learned in College into the case study easily."

An elated Tan also attributed the win to the lecturers from SBS, whom she described as “supportive throughout the challenge.”

Another student Wong Fui Mei, whose three-member team won the PNB quiz, said the industrial training with a mutual fund company helped them tremendously during the investment quiz.

Her team-mate, Wong Pooi Mun also credited the success to her lecturers especially their guidance throughout the years in the college and also for the competition.

Another team-member Lee Chee Sien said, “We worked closely and helped each other during the competition. The syllabus in the college also helped us a lot.”

SBS head Kho Sok Kee said the School was delighted with the triple success achieved by its students in intervarsity competitions.

“It is a good benchmarking and reflects highly on the School. In SBS, we have a lot of activities such as management games to stimulate students to think outside the box,” she said.
