| Enriching Soft Skills at TAR College |
| |
A well-rounded education does not only spur an individual towards achieving academic excellence, but also equips him or her in other essential skills that will enhance positive growth in every aspect of their personal development. In Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College), the focus is not only on helping students to master their fields of study, but also to enable them to develop good soft skills that play a vital role in their quest for professional success. |
| |
 |
|
Students demonstrate good team spirit in the great outdoors. |
|
| |
Units such as those of language and nation-building offered by TAR College serve to enhance the soft skills of the students in various aspects. Most of the units are embedded in the curriculum offered while there are also subjects such as Moral and Ethics, Ethnic Relations, Islamic and Asian Civilisation (TITAS) to further enhance the students’ understanding and elevate their analytical skills in terms of ethical and global issues. |
| |
Students have ample opportunity to improve their command of English through the core units which are made compulsory as English is the medium of instruction in TAR College. They can also take active part in short courses such as Grammar and Vocabulary, Fun with Creative English, English Language (1119 level), Study Skills and Academic Writing. |
| |
Another exciting programme is the Language Camp which is conducted with the purpose of enhancing interpersonal skills that help students develop friendship and motivation to work together in an atmosphere that encourages friendly competition in discovering the joy of learning the English Language. |
| |
To add variety to their learning process, students can participate in e-learning activities such as web-based discussions and problem-solving activities. On top of that, multimedia language laboratories are also set up for students to engage in self-assessed and self-paced learning. |
| |
Other than communication-based classroom activities, numerous other activities are also carried out to provide limitless opportunities for students to unearth their hidden talents such as the Public Speaking Competitions, Inter-Campus debates, Pertandingan Pidato Bahasa Malaysia and forum discussions which not only develop their confidence and eloquence in delivering speeches in public, but also sharpen their minds especially in delivering impromptu speeches. Logical development of ideas and the ability to think critically during the debates are essential in helping students grow into mature, thinking individuals. |
| |
| Besides that, the College also promotes good reading habits by organising the Book Review Competition where students are encouraged to read books and to write reviews based on what they have read. This activity allows them to develop maturity in thought as well as analytical skills. |
| |
| These wide range of activities clearly demonstrates the College’s commitment in fostering students into becoming outstanding individuals who will not only contribute positively to the workforce based on their academic achievement, but who will also grow into distinguished, all-rounded individuals in their respective endeavours. |
