TAR College (TARC) alumnus wins the prestigious networking competition Asia Pacific (APAC) NetRiders 2011
 

Mr Lim Yu Jie, a graduate in Advanced Diploma in Science cum BS Degree (Internet Technology) from the School of Arts & Science of TAR College has jointly won the prestigious networking competition APAC NetRiders 2011 with another student from Multimedia University (MMU). The APAC NetRiders 2011 was held at the Cisco office in Kuala Lumpur on 27 October 2011.

Both of them formed the winning team called “Team Malaysia” and will travel to Cisco’s head office in San Jose to join the winners from other NetRiders competitions from around the world on a one-week study trip in January 2012.

IBM SmartCloud Camp roadshow at TARC
 

TARC, a Center of Excellence for IBM was selected as the venue for IBM Smart CloudCamp roadshow. The roadshow, held at Lecture Hall ABF was attended by School of Arts and Science students and postgraduate students from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The speakers from IBM, Ms Catherine (Academic Initiative & Communities ISV & Developer Relations) and Mr Wong Kai Sum (Client Technical Architect Systems and Technology Group) shared the process of the cloud computing and the procedures to join the IBM Smart CloudCamp.

TAR College Blood Donation Campaign-“Donate Blood, Make a Difference”
 

TAR College holds the national record for highest number of units of blood collected by an institution or organisation, and has earned a place in the Malaysian Book of Records. The recent October Blood Donation Campaign organized by First Aid Unit (FAU) was launched by Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Health Malaysia on 18 October 2011 with the theme “Donate Blood, Make a Difference”.

More than 1,800 donors including staff, students and also the public donated blood in this campaign held at College Hall, KL Main Campus. The objectives of the campaign were to collect blood for the National Blood Centre as well as to create awareness and social responsibility towards the sick and less fortunate in the community.

TARC Library Book Exhibition to promote reading culture
 

The TARC Library organises a book exhibition in September and October 2011. The theme of the exhibition is “Colour Your World with Books”. The objectives of the exhibition were to promote culture of reading among students, to encourage students to read fiction books in English Language as well as to make known to students on different genres of fiction books available in the Library.

Career Talk by TARC alumnus-Ms Boonsiri Somchit-Ong
 

Ms Boonsiri Somchit-Ong, an alumnus and now a very successful corporate leader (Corporate Vice- President of Finance) at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a leading American Multinational Semiconductor company captivated students’ attention with her talk on AMD profile, management trainee programmes, remuneration packages and promotion opportunities.

She also shared her career experiences and challenges with more than 200 students from School of Business Studies (SBS) at the recent TARC career talk.

Such a career talk is very beneficial to students in knowing more about expectations of employers.

TARC students’ publicity on Shell FuelSave College Competition 2011 gains raving reviews
 

TARC students’ publicity on Shell FuelSave College Competition 2011 gains raving reviews from the judges where they came up with an amazing concept on TARC FS which stands for Tyre, Air Pressure, Remove Excess Weight, Carpool, FuelSave Ron 95 and Service.

In conjunction of the competition, TARC team organized a very exciting publicity at Canteen 2, Main Campus, KL. It includes Mermaid photo boards, demonstration on changing the car tyres, counting the shells and giving away attractive bookmarks.

TARC is competing with another four colleges and universities; MMU, Inti, Segi College & Help University which will be held on 15 October 2011 at One Utama Old Wing car park.

The Malaysia Festival of the Mind VII
 

The Malaysia Festival of the Mind VII was jointly organised by Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM), Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) on 1-2 October 2011 at College Hall, Main Campus, KL. The Festival was officiated by YB Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn, Council Member of TARC and UTAR. The special guest speaker, YBhg Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer AirAsia Berhad gave an inspiring talk on "Dream the Impossible".

There were interesting public talks such as Emotional Excellence, Mind Mapping and Edward De Bono Thinking Methods, exciting demonstrations, exhibitions and competitions organised to create awareness on training the brain and enhancing mental literacy.
