TARC warmly welcomed back its first Principal
 

Dr Thong Saw Pak, the first College Principal was warmly welcomed back to the College by senior college officials led by Dr Tan Chik Heok, the College Principal.

It was a cherished journey down memory lane for Dr Thong as he toured the campus and expressed joy over the College’s developments, especially upon viewing the modern Cyber centre and the Library.

In sharing fond memories of the College in the early years with college officials and reminiscing on the anecdotes and happenings, he indelibly fostered a valued connection between the past and the present in shaping the progress of the College.
 
Dr Tan also presented Dr Thong with a photo frame of picture collections that captured Dr Thong’s days at the College, a pewter souvenir and a copy of the 40th Anniversary commemorative booklet.

TARC Students Win 1st Runner-up Position in the 10th Intervarsity Accounting Quiz 2011.
 

A team of 1st year students of School of Business Studies (SBS) namely, Vincent Chow Soon Kit, Daryl Lim Xu Yang, Hari Kumar and June Lau Hui Yee from the Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Financial Accounting) and Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Management Accounting) programmes has much to cheer when they emerged as the 1st Runner-up for the group competition in the 10th Intervarsity Accounting Quiz 2011.

TARCians Set Out to Motivate Primary School Children to Excel in Studies
 

Empowered to make change, eight Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) students set out to the outskirts of Selangor on 19 March 2011, to nurture further interests to excel in studies among students from SK Sungai Bumbum.

The eight TAR College students form a group called Team Elitexus, all of whom are participants of the BEST Soft Skills Development programme, which is a joint out-of-classroom project between KPMG and TAR College, focusing on development of TAR College students to be well-rounded individuals.

Through simple scientific demonstrations, game activities and sharing sessions, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) project aimed to motivate the primary school students to excel and further their studies. The group also provided students with the necessary stationeries for their studies and exams.

TARC student awarded Distinction Prize at eGENTING Programming Competition 2010
 
Lim Wei Hsiang, a first year student from the Advanced Diploma in Science (Computer Science and Computer Mathematics) programme, was awarded the Distinction Prize at the eGENTING Programming Competition 2010.

This was the first time TARC sent students for this competition. A total of 7 students from the School of Arts and Science (SAS) participated in the competition which was held on 23rd October 2010 at Wisma Genting.

TAR College Chinese Language Society Organised Stage Play, “Memories”
 
The TAR College Chinese Language Society organised a spectacular musical stage play called “Memories” held in the Main KL Campus College Hall.

The play told the story of five students and their journey to realise their dreams in holding their own concert. It also highlighted the struggle of youths today to maintain a healthy balance of studies, love and friendship, while pursuing their passion.

TAR College Alumni Treasure Hunt
 
The TAR College School of Arts and Science (SAS) Alumni Federation recently organised an Alumni Treasure Hunt event, bringing staff, alumni and their families together to take on challenging tasks, questions and puzzles while bonding.

Treasure hunters started their journey from the KL Main Campus, taking a 7-hour route while solving their challenges to reach the Kampar Branch Campus as their final destination.

TAR College organised Inaugural Student Seminar
 
Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR College) organised the inaugural Student Seminar 2011. Student-scholars presented their research findings at the seminar themed “Media, Communication & Psychology” at the college’s KL main campus.

A total of 10 graduating Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication and Psychology students together with two from Diploma in Public Relations presented their research papers, which were grouped into three panels: “Media, Culture and Society”, “New Media” and “Persuasive Communication and Psychology”.

TARC Principal Dr. Tan Chik Heok, college officials, and Dr. Iqbal Akthar, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) Programme Leader of TARC’s UK Bachelor’s Degree collaboration, also attended the seminar.

TAR College Students Raised RM 80,000 to equip schools with Computer Lab
 

Helping primary school children to gain a head start in IT, Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) have raised RM 80,000.00  to build new computer labs for S.J.K.(C) Kuang and S.J.K.(T) Kuang, giving the primary school students access to tools that will enhance their learning experience. The donation was presented by Dr Tan Chik Heok, TAR College Principal, in a ceremony held at S.J.K.(C) Kuang.

The second year students in Diploma of Mass Communications (Public Relations), the 2006 and 2010 cohorts of the School of Social Science and Humanities (SSH) jointly raised the amount through two separate fund-raisers.

Certificate Presentation Ceremony for the TARC-MAICSA CSP Seminar Series
 

It was a joyous day for over 50 selected TARC students as they received their certificates of participation from Dr Tan Chik Heok, Principal of TAR College on 5th of March 2011 for their successful completion of the Malaysian Association of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) Company Secretarial Practice (CSP) seminar series.

The ceremony also marks the fruitful efforts of TARC’s School of Business Studies & the Centre of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and MAISCA in bringing together the Seminar Series to benefit the Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Business Management) cum ICSA students especially in terms of the practical aspects of company secretarial work, a key component in the role of a qualified company secretary.

TAR College March Open Day
 

The TAR College Open Day is back! Giving guidance in education pathways and future careers, the Open Day welcomed school leavers to its Sports Complex seeking quality education.

Held in conjunction with the Open Day, the School of Business Studies (SBS) also organised its own SBS Carnival, celebrating its 40th Anniversary, which saw much fun game activities.

TAR College will also be participation in the FACON Education Fair and the Education & Further Studies Fair. Be on the look out for the TAR College booth in these major education fairs, dates of which you can find in the “Upcoming Events” section.

TARC Staff Training in UK
 

Mr. Tan Vooi Giap and Dr. Amy Yeo Chu May from the School of Business Studies were selected to attend several training programmes in the United Kingdom as part of TAR College’s commitment to the continuous development of teaching staff.

They attended the ACCA Learning Providers Conference in Nottingham together with Ms. Wong Hwa Kiong, the Deputy Head of School of Business Studies. In London, they went for training at BPP, the world’s leading and reputable supplier of accountancy and training materials. Mr. Tan also attended the CIMA Teachers Conference in Warwick while Dr. Yeo travelled to Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland.
