MoU Signing between TAR College (TARC) and Birmingham City University (BCU), UK |

Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) has gone a step further to widen the choices of course for its Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Management Accounting) students by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Birmingham City University (BCU), UK on 29 July 2011 at the KL Main Campus. Under the Progression Agreement, the students who successfully complete all designated modules in the Executive Development Programme (EDP) at TARC will be considered for progression into the Postgraduate Diploma Stage of the MSc Accountancy and Finance (CIMA Pathway) at Birmingham City University, UK.

TARC - "1 Love Charity Project for Beautiful Gate" |
| |
TARC Diploma in Public Relations Year Two students organised a meaningful “I Love Charity Project for Beautiful Gate, a foundation for disabled at canteen 2 and football field, Main Campus, KL from 25-29 July 2011.
The objectives of the charity were to raise funds for Beautiful Gate and to create awareness about its services and assistance to the disabled. The students raised funds through selling more than 10 types of food, beverages and other souvenir items.
The main sponsor, Sense & Style Beauty Academy provided a make-up service to students and also conducted two make-up workshops in the classroom. A “mini wheel chair” competition, named "Wheel-lympics" was held to gave students a chance to experience the difficulty encountered when sitting on wheel chair.

Institution of Higher Learning Table Tennis Championship |
| |
The Institution of Higher Learning Table Tennis Championship, Deputy Minister of Higher Education Cup was held for the second time at Perak Youth and Sports Complex on 21st to 24th July 2011. More than 700 students divided into 52 teams from various institutions such as University of Malaya, Multimedia University and Universiti Putra Malaysia took part in the4-day event.
The TARC Table Tennis Team comprising of Lee Soo Han, Leong Kah Jun and Ang Wei Ching won the 1st runner up and walked away with a cash prize of RM2,000. In the Men Single, Lee Soo Han won the 3rd runner up and received a cash prize of RM 300.

TARC Student’s Moral Activity Day |
| |
The School of Technology (SOT) and School of Arts and Social Science (SAS) jointly organised Moral Activity Day with the theme “Generasi Baru: Kemanakah Hala Tuju?” on 21 July 2011 at the College Hall, KL Main Campus.
The purpose of this activity is to raise awareness among students on various moral issues affecting the present young generation and the world at large. Dr Tan Chik Heok, Principal of TAR College who launched the Moral Activity Day said that the intention to produce graduates with excellent values will be fulfilled through the college’s holistic and quality education system.
There were a total of 18 booths showcasing the student’s moral activities which is family related issues such as Sexuality and Family, Human Cloning and Test Tube Baby. In addition, there were also other highlights on moral issues e.g. Terrorism, Corruption, Drugs and Alcohol, Bullying, Suicide and Gambling.

MoU signing with IBM and launch of the IBM Center of Excellence |
| |
TAR College further strengthened its collaborative links with the industry when its the School of Arts and Science (SAS) forged a successful MoU signing with IBM, a leader in technology innovation at the KL Main Campus.
The event also marked the launch of the IBM Center of Excellence which would help to train students in IBM software technology as well as to gain the professional IBM certification. The IBM Center of Excellence is part of IBM Academic Initiative project to partner with education institutions towards the aim of developing knowledge and skills of IT personnel and students.
The MoU signing was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong who also officiated the launch of the Center of Excellence. Mr. Ramanathan Sathiamutty, the Managing Director of IBM Malaysia and Dr Tan Chik Heok, Principal of TAR College represented the relevant parties in the signing.

TARC Student won 1st runner up in 1Malaysia Public Speaking Competition (National Level) |
| |
Lim Teck Yu, a student from the School of Technology (SOT) won the 1st runner up with his eloquent performance entitled “Bersatu Teguh, Bercerai Roboh” at the 1Malaysia Public Speaking Competition (National Level) held on 19 July 2011 at Amfiteater, Kompleks Kraf, Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur. With the theme “Gagasan 1Malaysia: Wadah Perpaduan Nasional”, the competition aimed to improve the skill of mastering the national language – Bahasa Malaysia, as well as to instill the spirit of unity among the multiracial society.
Lim Teck Yu walked away with a cash prize of RM3,000, a trophy and a certificate. Lim said 1Malaysia help to unite the Malaysians regardless of race, religion, age and gender. He expressed his deepest gratitude to the lecturers and family members who supported him in this competition. “I am poud to be a TARcian”, he added.

TAR College “La Mode” Orientation Odyssey Night |

The “La Mode” Orientation Odyssey Night is the highlight in the series of orientation programmes to help freshies adjust well to campus life.
Held on 16 July 2011 at the College Hall of the KL Main Campus, the OO Night is an excellent platform for the new students to showcase their talents in drama, music, song and fashion and to vie for the main prizes in the competition.

Fundraising Event for School of Business Studies (SBS)’s 40th Anniversary Celebration and Mid Autumn Festival |

The various societies under SBS such as Banking and Finance Society, Accounting Society and Management Accounting Society had organized a fundraising event at Canteen 2 Foyer from 11 to 15 July 2011. The objective is to raise funds for SBS’s 40th Anniversary Celebration in the Mid Autumn Festival, which will be held on 30 September 2011.
They sold many scrumptious delicacies which include Macaroon, a colourful French dessert, Ichibon Bubble Tea, Chinese Pan Cakes, Curry Fish Ball, Mi Sedap and Asam Boi drinks.
The students commented that they have learnt much through applying marketing strategies to increase sales from the crowd.

Dr Yew Chong Hooi’s talk - “The Role of Forensic Science in Criminal Investigation” |

Dr Yew Chong Hooi gave a insightful two-hour talk to more than 80 students and lecturers in KL Main Campus. In his talk, he explained about the Forensic Department of The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and the importance of forensic science in criminal investigation.
Dr Yew is the newly appointed xIndustrial Expert Advisory Panel of Chemistry and Biology Division under the School of Arts and Science (SAS).

40 Students from SMK Raja Lumu, Pelabuhan Klang have fun in “TARC - Cambridge A-level Camp” |

40 students from SMK Raja Lumu participated in the pioneer Cambridge A-level Camp held on 13th July 2011 at the KL Main Campus.
The objective of the camp is to expose secondary school students to various tertiary education pathways. Students gained first hand learning experiences and cutting edge facilities in the campus through a series of fun filled activities organised by the School of Pre-University Studies of TAR College.

TARC’s Sabah Branch Campus – Expansion of Community Service Programme |

The Community Sociology Group (CSG) was established in Sabah Branch Campus this year with the guidance of the Student Affairs Department (SAD). Two staff and six Community Sociology Advisory Group’s Leaders (CSAG) from TARC Main Campus conducted training on Community Service Programme for 44 students in Sabah Branch Campus from 8 to 10 July 2011.
The objectives of the programme were to improve and increase the education standard in particular areas as well as to create awareness of the importance of education among the parents. During the Community Service Programme, the members of CSG provide counseling sessions to the primary school students and produce a fun learning activity. Besides, the members also encouraged potential students to continue studying and contribute to the community in future.

School of Technology Alumnus came back to share with juniors |

Dr Andy Wong Chee Hong, an alumnus of the School of Technology (SOT) returned to TAR College for a presentation on ‘Employer Mentoring and Employability Skills’. In his talk to about 100 students and staff, he emphasized on the importance of identifying and strengthening one’s employability skills in today’s workplace.
Dr Andy Wong, who graduated from the College 18 years ago is presently a Quantity Surveyor with Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd.

TARC - Campbell University Convocation |
| |
TAR College celebrated the convocation of its 348 students from School of Arts and Sicence who have completed the US Campbell University Bachelor of Science Degree programmes. The convocation was held at the College Hall, KL Main Campus.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Campbell University, Dr Dwaine Greene presented the scroll to all the graduands and congratulated them for attaining great achievements. TAR College Principal, Dr Tan Chik Heok presented the ‘Perpetual Cup’ to Lim Shun Jie. The Perpetual Cup was donated by friends from Campbell University and Ulster University to the most outstanding student of the Senior Class considering academic achievements, character, integrity and leadership potential.
Dr Tan also presented the ‘James Alexander Magowan Prize’ for Physics, the prize for Microelectronics to Quek Chi Yeh, the ‘Samuel Martin Brown Prize’ for Biology to Teh Chew Chung, the ‘Matthew Baillie Prize for Chemistry to Wong Loo Kim and the prize for Information Systems to Lim Kia Ling.

TARC-SIFE Fundraising for Japan Tsunami Survivors |

TARC-Student In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organized a fundraising event for Japan Tsunami Survivors. This event took
place from 27 June
– 1 July 2011 at Canteen 2, KL Main Campus.
The most eye-catching event in the fundraising campaign was the ‘Sushi King’ live demonstration on art of
making Sushi.
There were also brisk sales at the ‘Grandmom’s Dessert’ stall and attractive products such as ladies’ accessories,
Time and Fortune magazines and reasonable travel packages.

Anti-Drug Talk on “Tomorrow’s Leader” |

More than 85 students attended the talk on “Tomorrow’s Leader” which was held at UA026, Sports Complex on 1 July 2011 from 8.30am to 1.00pm. The talk was organised by facilitators from National Anti-Drug Agency, Sentul District, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
The objective of the talk was to provide understanding and awareness on drug prevention. Students also took the opportunity to learn about different kind of drugs which could be harmful to human body through group discussion and presentation.
