The Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CPE Centre) was established in 1999 to provide continuing professional education and lifelong learning opportunities to TAR College staff and alumni and also to the public. As part of TARC’s commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning, the CPE Centre is entrusted with the important role of designing, developing and delivering a wide variety of programmes to meet the diverse learning needs of its staff, alumni and students as well as the general public.

TARC is registered as a Training Provider under the HRDC/PSMB, Ministry of Human Resources. The Centre organises courses and workshops for PROLUS, SBL-KHAS, SMETAP, as well as SBL Schemes for the employers registered with PSMB.

The CPE Centre conducts industry-specific and professional-specific CPD courses for professionals as well as customised in-house training programmes for corporate clients. Public courses, seminars and workshops on professional, managerial and technical areas as well as soft skills are conducted on a regular basis. These programmes are open to the general public, to assist working adults to obtain new skills, competencies and knowledge to keep abreast with changing markets and technological advancement.

The CPE Centre plays an active role in organising conferences and forums for the College. The Centre is the Secretariat for the TARC International Conferences on Learning and Teaching, which is organised biannually to promote research knowledge, experiences and expertise on developments in learning and teaching as well as best practices in higher education.

The Centre also organises the TARC Employers Forum on an annual basis to provide a platform for dialogue between the College and employers in commerce and industry, and also the professional bodies to discuss issues and challenges pertaining to human capital development and education.

Training programmes for staff development are directed at enhancing the level of professionalism, competence and knowledge among college staff. These programmes cover three (3) main areas:

  • Teacher Development Programmes
  • Professional and Technical Development Programmes
  • Personal Development and Soft Skills Programmes
  •
In line with lifelong learning, the CPE Centre also conducts talks and courses which enhance the personal, social and cultural interests of individuals on topics such as health, fitness, living skills and other general topics to staff, students and the public. These are aimed at creating awareness and enhancing understanding in various areas, which will, in turn, lead to self-directed inquiry of knowledge and learning for personal enrichment and development.
