TAR College Wins in the Deloitte Tax Challenge and PNB Investment Quiz

Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) shows that it has what it takes to produce students who are astute in taxation and investment, both important components of any business enterprise.

In the Deloitte Tax Challenge 2009, the College stamped its mark by winning the Champion Award (individual category) for the second consecutive year and also won the 1st Runner -up and 2nd Runner-up in the team category.

Tan Chia Woon, a Year One TAR College student for Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Financial Accounting) who was judged as the Champion in the individual category of the Deloitte Tax Challenge, attributed her success to the support and guidance of her lecturers and, in particular for being exposed to real-life application of case studies at the College. These have helped her through the rigorous online and written test and finally, in her presentation to the Board of Directors of Deloitte.

As for the team category, Team Synergy and Taxpro obtained first runner-up and second runner-up positions respectively through sheer determination and perseverance.

TAR College winning streak continued on in the Permodalan National Berhad Investment Quiz 2008 with the 2nd Runner-up award won by its participating team.

A beaming and happy Ng Kar Chun, one of the participants in the TAR College winning team of the PNB Investment Quiz added, “To succeed in a competition, I believe that the most important thing is to believe in one’s own abilities and not be fazed by the obstacles along the way.” This sound piece of advice has indeed, helped Kar Chun and his team mates to secure the win.

The Head of TAR College School of Business Studies Ms Kho Sok Kee was ecstatic about both wins and said: “The achievement by the students is a testimony of the relevance and rigor that we put our students through in our business courses.  The courses were designed to give the students a very comprehensive coverage on the principles, concepts and broad knowledge – both theory and applied of the various disciplines.”
