In August this year, students from Year 1 Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Public Relations) and Year 2 Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Advertising) organized a 3-day charity campaign themed “Truly Loving Campaign” in partnership with the Truly Loving Company (TLC).

The campaign was held to promote the charity concept “All quality, all for charity” while selling quality TLC products ranging from household essentials to personal care products. The dedication and hardwork that the students put into the campaign was translated into a huge success when the total figure of TLC product sales collected in merely 3 days’ time amounted to RM22,018 which far exceeded the initial target of RM15,000.

The proceeds of the charity sale were channeled to TLC, wherein all of the company’s dividends are distributed to the five charity organizations in order to provide them with a regular, sustainable, long term source of income and funds. These charity organizations include the Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Bahru, HOSPIS Malaysia, the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), Rumah Aman, and also SHELTER - Homes for Children.

As part of the planning and preparation for the project, the Mass Communications students met up with the TLC’s top management to present their ideas and also went on “Familiarization Trips” to the TLC’s product manufacturers’ factory. Besides that, there were also special talks held in conjunction with the campaign. During one of the talks, Julia Chong, the CEO/Founder of TLC delivered a moving speech about the inspiration behind the establishment of the company. Representatives from the five charity homes also shared with the students their experience of working with those who are in need at close proximity.

The campaign ended on a high note on the final day of the campaign with special performance by local celebrities such as Desiree, Luo Yi Shi and the hosts of 8TV’s game show “Go Go Go” who rendered their support to the noble cause. Students were overjoyed and cheered in celebration of the success of the campaign when the total figure of TLC product sales was announced during the closing ceremony.

“The campaign has been a heartwarming experience for me, to see how ideas are being turned into reality by the large group of very dedicated, passionate, committed and professional Public Relations and Advertising students,” said Julia Chong.

Lim Siz Siz, an SSH Programme Supervisor and also the campaign’s Event Advisor commented that the event has provided students with a valuable hands-on learning experience that adds value to them.

“It provides a strong industry-linked platform for public  relations
