Computer Science Division Unit File System
A group of lecturers from the Computer Science (CS) Division has developed the CS Division Unit File System which computerizes the forms in the Unit File and enables the generation of the relevant Annual Quality Review (AQR) Report tables by extracting the information from the relevant forms.

The lecturers who worked very hard on the development of this system and endured many late nights were Ms Poh Siaw Way (Leader), Ms Lim Yee Mei, Mr Peh Guan Soon, Mr Teh Boon Chuan and Mr Beh Thian Su. Using the 3-tier approach, Lim and Teh worked on the presentation tier whereas Poh, Peh and Beh concentrated on the application and data tier. They were also assisted by other lecturers such  as  Ms  Phea  Lee  Mai, Ms  Lee  Pek  San,  Ms Tan Choi Weei,  Ms  Tan  Li Peng  and  Ms  Tan  Lay Aik for the
requirements specification using unified modeling language (UML) and database design.

Mr Peh Guan Soon summed up the whole project in a few words: “I believe that having each person contribute 10% to get the work done is always better and more efficient than having a single person contributing 100% to get the work done on his own. We’re proud of the product. It’s designed to empower the users to be more efficient and effective, and it also has a high degree of usability. I’m really happy to see how the system has evolved from conception to a working prototype.

A demonstration on the system was held on 23 August 2007. The CS Division plans to do a pilot test on this system in Second Semester 2007/2008.

The login screen looks exactly like the Unit File! This interface was created from scratch and is not a scanned image of the physical unit file. Impressive work by the team!

Post-demo discussion on how to perfect the user interface further … admirable commitment from the core team members! From left (front): Mr Teh Boon Chuan, Ms Poh Siaw Way and Ms Lim Yee Mei; (back): Mr Peh Guan Soon and Mr Beh Thian Su.
