A Truly Momentous Night to Remember

Aptly themed Momentous, the TT Nite 2007 held at the TAR College Kuala Lumpur Main Campus College Hall in early July this year was bigger and better.

The annual event featured a panel of star-studded celebrity judges who included singer Ms Karen Kong (who was also a former TT Nite finalist), local artiste Serene, well-known MyFM deejay Ms Gan Mei Yan, and 8TV producer and host Mr Desmond Tey. The night saw our young and talented TARCians shining on the stage with different genres of performances, which included soulful and powerful song presentations, electrifying music band performances, and dynamic hip-hop dance numbers. The audience also enjoyed the spectacular guest performances presented by Ms Karen Kong and the TT Nite committee members.

The night culminated in the highly anticipated moment – the announcement of winners and prize presentation ceremony. Chung Sing grabbed the top spot for the solo singing category whilst the all-girls group 4get emerged the champion for the group singing category. For the Emceeing Talent category, the best male emcee was won by Faisal Ariffin while the best female emcee was won by Min Yunn.

The instrumental category was topped by the group Loong Er, consisted of Chung Chee Loong and Chan Cheah Yin. The duo presented famous classical piece Flight of the Bumblebee and also Sadness and Sorrow from Toshiro Matsuda’s Naruto by creatively employing the Chinese dulcimer (yang-qin), Chinese drums and also contemporary drums, which got the crowd cheering feverishly on their stunning performance.

The dance category was won by the group Mirage, formed by Low Pei Shan, Lau Wui Xian, Chong Pooi Yan and Ong Ying Wah, who captured the judges’ hearts with their outstanding interpretation of a distinctly original and avant-garde dance. Their dance routine was a fusion of spirituality and exquisite fantasy, which featured a collage of lyrical and ballet dance that were weaved into a melody with an oriental and mystical feel. The unique performance earned Mirage the TT Nite 2007 Overall Champion title.

John Neai Sing Han, Chairperson of the TT Nite 2007 committee, said organizing such a major College event was a very good learning experience for everyone in the committee. One could definitely feel the presence of the resounding passion and team spirit in the lad when he said, “Together with one voice, we roar, ‘This moment is ours … forever!’”
