Tech-Savvy Students Get Inspired

Second year Information Systems Engineering students from TAR College Sabah Branch Campus were very much inspired after taking part in an educational visit to Sri Komputer Sdn Bhd, Kota Kinabalu on 3 September 2007.

Sri Komputer is a leading ICT solution provider in Sabah which does outsourcing, E-infrastructure, consulting and enterprise services. Mr Hiew Chee Wah, the CEO of Sri Komputer, gave a presentation on the company's profile, track record and achievements. The students were impressed with the multiple areas of expertise offered by Sri Komputer to its clients. Besides giving a brief introduction and presentation on the company, the General Manager, Mr David Ng, also talked about Software Development 101 which described the role and responsibilities of a general manager, a systems analyst and a programmer in the part by part development of software.

The visit became even more meaningful when Mr Hiew encouraged the students by throwing them a challenge saying, "If you are good, we will employ you." After hearing that, the students were filled with great enthusiasm and were eager to take up the challenge. Mr Ng was also very happy with the visit and he added that it was not every day that they had the opportunity to inspire young minds and lure future talents to join the industry.

With the success of the educational visit, the School of Arts and Science at Sabah Branch Campus will definitely organize more such visits with the aim of providing students with wider industry exposure and first-hand knowledge of IT-related jobs.
