The Student Affairs Department, School of Business Studies (SBS) and the Career Guidance Society jointly organized a one-day Career Fair on 12 March 2009. The event was graced by the presence of YB Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Council Chairman of Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) and Dr Tan Chik Heok, the College Principal.

The responses from the employers were as good as the past two years with 14 established companies setting up their booths in the College Function Room. Among the participating companies were Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), BDO Binder, Manpower Staffing Services, Contact Singapore, DHL Asia Pacific Shared Services, DRB-Hicom, ING Insurance, Adecco and J.K.WIRE HARNESS Sdn Bhd. The continuous support from these companies showed that our

Business Studies students are in high demand.

“The Career Fair serves as a good platform for students of the School of Business Studies to explore different employment opportunities while establishing network with their prospective employers,” said Mr Harry Goh, Senior Student Affairs Officer of Student Affairs Department.

“By understanding the latest industries portfolios and requirements, students can gain wider career knowledge which in turn make them gems that are well sought-after by employers,” added Mr Goh.

Euodia Ooi Tsu Ing agreed that the Career Fair has provided her a chance to explore more about the auditing agencies. “I am delighted with the exposure and experiences gained in today’s event as it has helped me in preparing myself better for future interviews,” said Euodia, a final year Advanced Diploma student who is pursuing her studies in Financial Accounting.

While students were giving the thumbs up for the event, Eleanore Choong, a staff from Accenture Solutions commended the College for organizing such a beneficial event for the students. “It is a well-organized event and we are very satisfied with most of the TAR College applicants,” added Eleanore.

In conclusion, the career fair has created a win-win situation where established companies gained the opportunity of sourcing the right people for the right jobs and for our students to find employment as soon as they graduate.
