At the very recent Graduation Ceremony held at Shangri la Hotel on 15th March 2009, there was a batch of about 270 students who received their scrolls from Professor Philip Jones, Vice–Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University. To date, as many as 5,000 College students have graduated from this collaborative programme with Sheffield Hallam University since its inception.
The popularity and awareness of this programme among TAR College students brought Councillor Paul Scriven (equivalent to Mayor’s position) of Sheffield City Council and John Palmer, Director of Corporate Communications of Sheffield Hallam University to TAR College for an official visit and also to conduct a Special Talk on “Sheffield as the destination for tertiary education” to parents, students and staff at the TAR College Open Day. This is part of the celebratory events to mark the 10th anniversary of the TAR College – Sheffield Hallam University collaboration.
In the Talk, Councillor Paul Scriven highlighted Sheffield City’s facilities, accommodation, tourist sites, future plans and related services. Common questions posed in the “Question and Answer” after the session were on the expected expenses for a UK education, the qualifying criteria as well as the types of courses offered.
John Palmer, the Director of Corporate Communications commented on the helpful and participative nature of TAR College students at Sheffield, “Indeed, the students were eager beavers who rolled up their sleeves to clean the playground of an elementary school and they even volunteered to paint the school as well…so there’s the Malaysian touch at Sheffield!” Such projects are initiatives taken to integrate the Malaysian students into the Sheffield community.

TAR College and Sheffield Hallam University, both progressive learning centres are in a successful partnership that is now in its 10th year. This strong partnership continues to give great opportunities for TAR College students to enhance their educational experience in the UK as well as to enrich the teaching and learning standards in the education fraternity. Our students are offered a choice of innovative and flexible pathways to further their studies in UK. In addition to the one summer semester Honours Degree Conversion Programme, they can also opt to further their studies at the postgraduate level through the Continuation Masters Programme at a special rate. TAR College education begins where academic quality meets affordability.
