TARC/Microsoft Code Camp ’07

Code Camp '07 participants: The Organizing Committee Members and Computer Science Society Advisor are on the first row.
Put three School of Arts and Science (SAS) Advanced Diploma in Science (Year One) students from the TAR College Computer Science Society in a brainstorming session and they came up with the TARC/Microsoft Code Camp ’07. The Code Camp, held on 17-18 March 2007 at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus, was the brainchild of TAR College Microsoft Student Partners, namely Jonathan Ng Loong Sing (Information Systems Engineering), Kok Chiann (Internet Technology) and Lim Huey Chen (Information Systems Engineering).
Besides its main objective to expose students to the latest Microsoft tools and a variety of innovative applications for potential use in their final year project, Code Camp aimed to promote teamwork and friendship amongst the participants as well.
Students from SAS who participated in the Code Camp attended some technical sessions conducted by their peers to discuss topics such as Windows Forms, Introduction to .NET 3 & WPF, Dive into WPF, ASP.NET AJAX and Internet Explorer 7 & RSS. Other activities like games required groups to act out comical scenarios related to the use of information technology. Students even tried their hands in testing their gaming skills with the Xbox video game console provided by Microsoft.
The Code Camp went without a hitch, much to the joy of Event Committee Chairman, Jonathan Ng, who said, “I’m truly glad that Code Camp met its objectives of exposing students to the potential of Microsoft’s technologies. Even more satisfying is the fact that we had fun during the camp and were inspired and motivated to develop better, innovative applications for our final year projects.”
Brendan Chin Kin Khuan and Khoo Hsiang Hsiang, both Advanced Diploma Year One students of Information Systems Engineering, expressed their satisfaction from joining Code Camp. They said: “It was an enriching experience for us as we learned to tap the full potential of Microsoft technologies for our projects. We were treated with previews of the new Windows Vista and also Microsoft Office 2007. Besides that, the organizers also shared some handy and trendy programming techniques to enhance our projects. It was an interesting learning experience especially when we got to try some Xbox games and made friends throughout the two-day camp.”
Who says Science students can’t act? Students tickled each other pink with their funny skits during game time.
