Good Deed Done at Segamat Rehabilitation Centre
The Chinese New Year preparation started with a good deed by TAR College staff from the Johor Branch Campus. A group of academic and administrative staff brought bundles of joy and happiness to the Segamat Rehabilitation Centre on 12 February 2007. The Centre, operating in a bungalow situated in Eastern Garden, serves the needs of Down Syndrome children.

The staff received a warm welcome from these special children, who against all odds, were very caring, loving and even had the kindness to share their food and gifts with the staff. Upon arrival, the TAR College team moved swiftly to decorate the Rehabilitation Centre with pretty lanterns and other decorative festive items, adding more colour and vibrancy to the Centre. The children had smiles plastered on their cute faces as they watched the College staff in action and gave broader smiles when some toys and love offerings were distributed to them later. The new ambience made the Centre a happier place as the children began to feel the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year around the corner.

Ms Claina Antonette A/P Antony, Lecturer of School of Social Science and Humanities, said the children’s innocence and care for one another made them even more special. “I admire their kindheartedness and thoughtfulness and it was indeed a memorable experience for me. I will never forget them and I will keep them in my prayers,” she added.

Ms Jeetha, Lecturer of School of Business Studies, said: “I will always remember this annual visit. I’m deeply touched by their loving nature and I’m so happy to be part of the TAR College team that made their day more meaningful for those special kids.”

Visits like this have become an annual event for the Johor Branch Campus staff who see this as an initiative to contribute towards the society in little meaningful ways.
