Learning Experience!

| The Leadership
Development Workshop 2006 organized by the staff of Student Affairs
Department has garnered much positive feedback from the participating
students, who gave their thumbs high up for the informative sessions
and fun interactions featured in the workshop. The two-day event took
place on 25 and 26 March, where 66 participants from various societies
and student representative groups on campus gathered at the multi-purpose
hall in the Sports Complex, with great enthusiasm to learn more about
effective leadership. |
| It has always
been TAR College’s principal goal to provide multi-disciplinary
education and all-rounded learning opportunities to all students.
The College is committed to instil and develop within the students
positive personal values, such as sense of responsibility and team
spirit, which will contribute to greater workforce productivity and
development of the community. Through the various workshops and seminars
conducted by the Student Affairs Department and Centre for Continuing
Professional Education, students are encouraged to take the initiative
to equip themselves with soft-skills necessary for them to perform
effectively as a leader as well as member of a team in the learning
context and at the workplace. |
During the Leadership
Development Workshop, the participants through an informative session
came to a better comprehension of the College’s Standard Operation
Procedures for student societies. The students also learnt about the
traits and approaches of different styles of leadership, which enables
them to have a better understanding of self and others, and to further
enhance their management skills. The importance of effective communication
was also being constantly stressed in the talks and games during the
workshop, as it is a crucial skill for establishing beneficial and
meaningful relationships within a collective body.
“The execution of the workshop is professional yet at the
same time very enjoyable,” said one of the participants
Chai May Li, who is also the Vice Chairperson of the Student Welfare
Society of School of Pre-University Studies.
Chieng Yu Huat, a student representative of School of Technology,
also found the workshop extremely beneficial. He gladly shared his
learning experience and remarked that the workshop is totally different
from what he had expected.
“I really learnt a lot from this workshop. The plentiful
and interesting programs have taught me meaningful lessons on how
to be a good leader, as well as on the importance of teamwork, just
to name a few,” said Yu Huat. |

Constructing the big picture …. Mind-engaging activity that
requires organizational skills and teamwork.

Robust physical and mental strength are crucial in playing leadership
roles. And obviously arm-wrestling is a good way to put the former
to the test. |
