A Trip to Segamat
Rehabilitation Centre
|
| A team of academic
and administrative staff from the Johor Branch Campus, led by the
Head, Mr Liaw Fenn Yenn, brought cheer to the Segamat Rehabilitation
Centre on 26 January 2006 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year
celebrations. Situated at a peaceful residential area of the Eastern
Garden, the Centre operates in a bungalow, catering specially for
children with Down’s syndrome disease. |
| The staff received
a warm reception. They learnt that children with Down’s syndrome
are lively and responsive, despite their distinct physical appearance
and slower learning rate. |
The staff spent
time chatting with the children and helped to decorate the walls to
create a festive atmosphere. Red packets were used in the decoration
as it is the festive color that symbolises happiness and good luck.
Ms Teh Ching Haa, Assistant Registrar of the Bursary Department, thought
that it was indeed a great experience that she would never forget.
“The moment that I saw these children, I realized that we
are so fortunate to be born as a healthy being, and we need to cultivate
a compassionate and loving culture that cares for the needy,”
said Ms Teh.
Head of Johor Branch Campus Mr Liaw said “We are proud to
see that our college staff are filled with love and care for these
beloved children, which was clearly shown during the visitation to
the Rehabilitation Centre.” |
