Inter-Varsity Challenge

TAR College,
a premier institution of higher learning received another boost
when two out of the three teams which represented the College emerged
as the Champion and First Runner-up during the recent inaugural
University of Malaya – Citigroup Intervarsity Case Challenge
2006. Team Premier, the team that clinched the championship was
led by Anna Tan Shuh Ping with Tan Chin Hing, Tan Chin Hong and
Toh Hong Beng as her teammates. The second team which won the First
Runner-up consisted of Ng Juan Hui, Paul Wong Kok Mun, Lim Sze Mun
and Sin Shyea Lim.
The teams from the College faced strong competition from the University
of Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Inti College.
Based on the case study of a bank merger entitled: "DBS
Bank: Winning the Hearts and Pockets of Singaporeans,"
a total of eight participating teams were given

exactly one week to conduct research and submit their thorough analysis
in written answers. The judges Associate Professor Dr Latif Haji Salleh
and Dr Che Ruhana Isa, both from UM chose the top four teams to advance
to the finals.
TAR College managed to secure two places in the final round where
they competed against two other teams. The finalists were required
to deliver a final oral presentation by providing fundamental recommendations
on applications and strategies on the case study given. They were
then judged based on content, presentation and ability to give precise
answers on the questions posed by the 5-member panel of highly experienced
judges, comprising the two academicians from UM and Citigroup's Country
Marketing Director Mr Leong Khai Fatt, Vice President Corporate Finance
Mr Eugene Khoo and Mr Vijay Manoharan, Head of Customer Experience
and Quality. |

| Throughout the
competition, both teams from the College demonstrated much team spirit.
They managed to drive home many strong points, delivering excellent
and impactful presentations and responses. They won the hearts of
the judges and members from the floor. Towards the end of the presentation,
it was as clear as day that the two teams from the College were better
than the rest. When asked what contributed to their victory, Anna
Tan, leader of Team Premier said ecstatically: “Our team
was able to apply what we have learned in the College into the case
study easily and this achievement is a triumph for the College too.”
She was also quick to point out that the advisors and lecturers from
the School of Business Studies were very supportive, and thanked all
of them for their inspirational and unfaltering guidance throughout
the challenge. |
