Six students did the college proud by representing various states in the recent SUKMA Games (Malaysia Games) held in Terengganu in May this year.
On the Selangor beach volleyball team was School of Technology diploma student Vinod Kanagaratham, 19. Vinod who is pursuing his studies in mechanical and manufacturing engineering helped his team won a bronze medal at SUKMA for the state.
Vinod, also a college volleyball team member, said he started playing volleyball when he was 11 years old. “We had only hoped that my team could make it to the semi-finals at SUKMA, but we performed better than we expected,” he added.
Vinod said in final phase of preparation for SUKMA, his team had to undergo intense training five times a week, with emphasis on match play to enhance teamwork in attacking and defending.
He commented that there were a lot of challenges in playing beach volleyball because players had to overcome strong winds and the vigorous movements in receiving, setting, retrieving and jumping on the soft sandy surface. Furthermore, the team also faced strong contenders from the other states.
“I am thankful for my partner and coaches for their great support and training,” he added.
Other college team players who represented their own states in the recent SUKMA Games were Khong Farn Jun (Pahang), Sin Guan Leong (Kedah), H’ng Yit Keong (Kedah), Au Su Cheng (Kuala Lumpur) and Chua Su Lyn (Kuala Lumpur). |
