A Dynamic Kick-Start: TAR College Orientation Week 2006
“BODY COMBAT TRAINING??!! Oh no no ... let me get this right … I’m here for the Orientation … am I at the wrong place??”

If you think that Orientation is all about briefings and induction courses, you will be surprised to know that more than a thousand first-year students of the TAR College Penang Branch Campus underwent the Body Combat Training. Body Combat Training is a new form of martial arts cum aerobic exercise, which is definitely something different from what one would normally expect from an orientation programme.

TAR College enrolled a total of 11,052 new students of the 2006/07 May Intake into its six campuses throughout the nation with a great  line-up of  exhilarating  events  and  activities.   The

orientation programme brought much enthusiasm and excitement to these freshies as they geared up for their new campus life.
The highlights of the Orientation Week included the college video presentation, campus tour, ice-breakers, telematches, informative briefings by various departments, sports competitions, exhibitions by clubs and societies, talks on study skills, personal safety, talent performance competition, Beautify TAR College activities, fashion show, treasure hunt, psychological test, visit to the zoo, city tours, and many more.

Lim Pei Yinn, an Advertising student from the KL Main Campus, was one of the many participants of the new Orientation programme aptly called Adjustment to College Life. “The interactive session and heart-to-heart sharing with senior TARCians were especially helpful as I was feeling homesick during my first few months in KL,” said the 18-year-old lass from Kedah.
Down south at the Johor Branch Campus, the students visited the Segamat Rehabilitation Centre and the Segamat Old Folks Home to help out at the centres, as well as spent time with the children and the old folks. The visits may not be the typical Orientation programme, but the caring side of the TARCians was clearly portrayed through their love and concern for the less fortunate people.

The Orientation Week has served as a great platform for first-year students to meet people and make new friends as they begin their journey in TAR College. The invaluable experience and information gained throughout the week has also given these freshies a head start in making the transition from high school to college, and certainly will go a long way in helping them to adapt and adjust to their campus life.
