The School of Pre-University Studies (SPUS) has set a tradition of academic excellence by having students who were consistently winning awards for almost four decades. This year, SPUS has once again stamped its mark of excellence when its student, Ooi Wei Ming, scored the highest marks in the Economics paper for the May/June 2009 Cambridge International AS Level examination to win the Cambridge Outstanding Achiever - Top in Malaysia Award.
Ooi was surprised when he received the good news and he said: “I didn’t expect to obtain such a prestigious award when I sat for the examination but I am happy to have received it. All the hardwork and tears were well worth it”, said the Merit Scholarship holder who planned to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Economics or Accounting after his A Level studies.
Ooi received the award from YB Datuk Dr Ir Wee Ka Siong, Deputy Minister of Education at the presentation ceremony held at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya on 19 November 2009. This special award is given to students who obtained the highest result in Malaysia in a single Cambridge subject or across a group of subjects in the Cambridge International Examination.
In the same examinations, a total of 23 A Level students scored 3As and above in the May/June 2009 A Level examination and another 92 students obtained 3As and above in the AS Level examination. SPUS would continue to strive for greater heights by nurturing more high achievers in years to come. |
