TAR College is one such institution where secondary school leavers can expect loads of great opportunities to excel awaiting them. The June 2008 A-Level results once again affirmed the College’s reputation in producing high achievers as three of the School of Pre-University Studies students made the College proud by emerging winners for the Cambridge Brilliance in Malaysia awards for the second year consecutively. Chan Huey Hoong received ‘Top in Malaysia for General Paper’ award, Tan Lea Ngar for ‘Top in the World for Mathematics’ award and Loy Kai Yin for ‘Top in Malaysia for Business Studies’ award.

When asked about their secret to success, all the three top students were generous in sharing their study tips and unanimously agreed that there is no shortcut to success. Chan Huey Hoong shared about his conventional yet effective approach that has enabled him to excel in the General Paper subject.

“Read more articles, and make yourself enjoy reading it. It is only through constant reading that we can acquire more knowledge of the world and increase our  English  language
proficiency, both of which are vital to General paper,” said the 19 year-old who hopes to study overseas after the completion of his A-Level course.

For Tan Lea Ngar, she is of the opinion that the only way to score for the Mathematics subject is hands-on practice. “Mathematics is basically about the way of solving problems. Do more exercises and from different books, so that you can cope with all sorts of different questions given during the examinations.”

When asked about what keeps her going, Loy Kai Yin attributed her success to her parents and group study with friends. “My parents are my backbone. They are always there to support me unconditionally and they always encourage me to make my own decisions concerning my choice of course,” said Kai Yin who intends to further her studies in the field of Actuarial Science.

These three students have certainly made the College proud by winning these awards.
