It was the time of the year again for the Advanced Diploma students from the School of Technology and School of Arts and Science to shine with the showcase of their Final Year projects. Themed Humanity in Technology, the annual Project Design Exhibition (ProDEx) this year was officiated by Mr Chan Kum Wing, Vice Principal of TAR College on 12 December 2008, held concurrently with the College Open Day at the Sports Complex in the KL Main Campus.
A total of 86 projects were up for competition in three main categories (Prototype, Simulation and Case Study). The hi-tech projects were put on display for all to see during the two-day exhibition. The external professional judges gave rave comments to the participating groups. The judges also felt that with enough time for further research, there were quite a few ideas and projects that have the potential to be developed into something more for the benefit of mankind.
Above all, there lies the understated value of ProDEx that it is organized entirely by students. Sure, we have an organising committee comprising lecturers to provide guidance and advice but the details of running the exhibition are all managed by students. Students’ demonstrative skills are also put to the test as each team show off their projects. The students grapple with the needs of planning the details of the event and tasks involved in organizing the resources and processes so that the event is carried out successfully. The opening ceremony, layout and even souvenirs for the guest of honour are always different as each year’s committee try to outdo their predecessors.
All in all, ProDEx is an annual event that is part of the invaluable learning experience gained by students at TAR College.
