When the alumni of TAR College get together, there’s always something good for everyone – nice food, great music and most importantly, a bunch of long lost friends coming together, just like the good ol’ days. Thus, the 39th Anniversary Alumni Dinner held on 25 October 2008 was the perfect way to celebrate this bond of fellowship by returning to their alma mater, the place where they had once spent the best years of their life.

For approximately 600 alumni and their friends and family members who congregated in the hall of Sports Complex that day, it was a great night for them to catch up with one another to rekindle old friendships and reminisce on fond memories. Their presence was indeed a testimony of the strong ties and the bond established between the alumni and its alma mater.

The night’s function was dedicated to Ms Yoong Lai Thye, the immediate past Principal of TAR College. To say that Ms Yoong is a true-blue Tarcian would be an understatement. Her 31 years of illustrious career has steered the College in charting numerous milestones and achievements. Today, her visionary leadership has left behind an enviable legacy that enabled the College to stand tall in the fraternity of academia, professional bodies and the industry. The TAR College brand is now known for its high standards and quality.
During his speech, Dr Tan Chik Heok, who took over the helm from Ms Yoong gave a warm welcome to all the alumni and commended on their noble efforts in supporting the College. Dr Tan was happy that the spirit of giving which reflected very much on the caring culture was still well-preserved among fellow Tarcians. Throughout the years, the alumni have been contributing back to the College through conducting talks and workshops, offering career guidance, industrial training and job placement opportunities to their juniors in order to help them jump start their career upon graduating and also setting up of student loan funds to alleviate the students financial burden and to assist more deserving students to continue their studies.

When Mr Tai Sing Nge, President of the Federation of TAR College Alumni Associations took the stage, he managed to strike a chord with the rest when he said, “The successful contribution by the alumni to nation building should be reckoned with.” Over the years, the alumni have gained reputation for their hardworking attribute and efficiency in their work in various fields. Thus, it is the College aspiration that this reputation would be continued and the symbiotic relationship between the alumni and the College could be further strengthened to benefit the future generation of students.
