Former MCA president, Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting was recently conferred an honorary doctorate by Campbell University for his contribution in the field of education.

Dato’ Seri Ong, who is Council Chairman of Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) College, received his Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree at the Campbell University’s winter graduation ceremony at its campus in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Dato’ Seri Ong, in the course of his work as a politician and TAR College chairman, has not only demonstrated traits of perseverance, diligence and courage, but has also imparted these qualities to others. “He is deeply committed to providing quality education to all Malaysians.  This commitment was driven by his genuine concern for the less fortunate, and by his focus on education as a means to elevate their circumstances,” said Dr Dwaine Greene, the university’s vice president for academic affairs and provost.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science at Universiti Malaya, he taught for a brief period. He later became a grassroots activist and speaker at MCA motivational camps before moving on to state level and national politics.

Dato’ Seri Ong is an advocate of lifelong learning which provides people a chance to acquire new values so that they can be part of a productive community.

We at TAR College are absolutely delighted that Dato’ Seri Ong’s stewardship have been recognized by Campbell University and we believe that TAR College will continue to grow from strength to strength under his leadership for many more years to come.
