Mr Yong amusing his panel members and the audience with his charm and wit.

The Employers Forum held in November 2007 was a very lively and eye-opening event for the participants. There was not a dull moment at the forum as the invited speakers were from various backgrounds and kept the audience riveted with their sharp and sometimes humourous observations on various issues.

The forum kicked off with the address on “Developing Enterprising Talents for Globalisation” by Mr Amit Sud. Mr Sud, who is the Finance Human Resource Director for Asia Pacific in General Electric stressed that “the world is a smaller place due to globalisation.” He reasoned that due to this situation, the employee of the future must be willing to move globally and be constantly aware of the changes taking place.

The second speaker for the forum was Mr Yong Soo Heong, the Editor-in-Chief of BERNAMA who used humour to great effect to put forth his points on “Academia-Industry Collaboration on Training in Communication”. In his address, he stated that BERNAMA hopes to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with TAR College to source for what he terms as a “creative and innovative pool of students.”

One famous face at the forum was Mr Lew Fong Voon, who probably is better known as the name behind Lewre, a famous brand of shoes. Rounding off the forum was Mr Richard Leong from Standard Chartered Bank who told the audience that soft skills are very important in the banking industry.

One participant who was glad to be present was Mr Sujeyn Shanmugam, a graduate of TAR College who is now attached to General Electric. Mr Sujeyn takes on financial planning tasks for this esteemed corporation. He had this to say of his education in TAR College, “I think the co-curricular activities proved to be advantageous in my career.” The Employers Forum proved to be a triumphant homecoming for him too as many crowded around him to speak to him about his experiences in General Electric.
