TARCians Stand Tall at Top of the World and Malaysia

Two A Level students have made the College proud by recently emerging as winners of Cambridge Brilliance in Malaysia 2007 awards with their exceptional performance in the Advanced Subsidiary level examination.

Liew Kar Choon and Chow Ren Kai from the School of Pre-University Studies (SPUS) came in top in the world for Mathematics and top in Malaysia for General Paper respectively. The awards were presented to the winners on 18 October during a prize-giving ceremony organised by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), which is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year olds.

SPUS Acting Head Ms Looi Li Chin said the College is very happy and proud of the two students for having won such prestigious awards. “It is indeed a great testimony of the solid teaching and excellent coaching that the students have received from the College,” said Ms Looi.

When asked about the factors that have contributed to his commendable feat of emerging top in the world for the Mathematics paper, Kar Choon attributed his success to the College academic  staff. “I like the lecturers here, they

are fantastic. Their effective  teaching skills have helpedme to understand the lessons easily and they were always there to guide me when I came across difficult questions,” he said.

As for Ren Kai, it was his flair in writing and tactful strategy that helped him to win over the hearts of the examiners.  “I wrote a short poem in the last paragraph, it probably scored me a hundred or so,” said the 18-year-old.

When requested to share his thoughts and words of advice, the passionate poet once again demonstrated his ingenuity with a rhyme which reads:

Don’t bow down and clip your wings
And cease your dreams of greater things
For what good is an endless sky
If not to spread your wings and fly

An inspirational piece indeed. We at the College wish Kar Choon, Ren Kai and all A Level students the best in the upcoming exams and that they might soar to their greatest heights.
