IBM Comes Visiting

TAR College played host to Worldwide Technical Evangelist for IBM’s ASEAN ISV & Developer Relations team Mr Brendon Jones on 31 October 2007. Mr Jones is an IBM Certified Solutions Developer with over a decade of consulting and team leadership experience, and he was on a campus visit to give insights on Service-oriented Architecture (SOA).

Seventy-five students and additional academic staff from the School of Arts and Science eagerly attended his talk to gain more knowledge on SOA, which is gaining ground as the industry standard methodology for the design, development, deployment and management of information systems.

Final year students in particular found Mr Jones’ talk very useful when he explained about the Universal Description Discovery Integration (UDDI) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) technologies in Web services standard as these students are learning about Web services architecture and implementing the Web services applications. They also received tips on where to find web-based training  tool  and  free  downloads  of  other  learning   resources such as  tutorials  to  help  them explore more on SOA  applications.
