A Leap Ahead - The Employers Forum 2006
To gear TAR College graduates to be more prepared for the job market, the Employers Forum 2006 addressed key issues about narrowing the gap between the employers' recruitment and the graduates' training. The brainchild of the Centre for Continuing Professional Education (CPE), the forum looked into the key issues and challenges pertaining to the development of skills in the fields of engineering, science and technology.

Communications, lighting, research, broadcasting, control, electronics, energy and aerospace are only some of the areas that science, technology and engineering brought into play. The application of these disciplines is in practically everything that we use in our daily lives. Therefore, the College must make a leap forward, first, in providing a solid education and then meeting the nation's aim of producing engineers and scientists with the right mix of skills.

This mix of skills was thoroughly elaborated on in the key address at the start of the forum by Mr Moses Teh Ming Tong, Managing Director of Potential Plus Consultancy Sdn Bhd, on "Developing Human Capital for Globalisation". During the Forum Session, four other relevant key topics were delivered. The first topic was "Bridging the Curriculum and Industry Needs: The ISM Perspective" by Mr Ong See Lian, Council Member and Past President of the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia, followed by "Training in an MNC Environment" by Dr Ong Sze Wei, Design Automation Manager of Intel Microelectronics Sdn Bhd. Dr Harikrishna Kulaveerasingham, Director of Research at Sime Darby Technology Centre, shared on "Research Training-The Sime Darby Experience". Mr Sean Ong, Director in Commercial Business of Cisco Systems Sdn Bhd, presented the topic "The Importance of Embedding Skill Competencies in the Curriculum". At the end of the forum, an interesting dialogue session between the college staff and employers was also held.

In retrospect, TAR College has continually evolved, upgraded and provided theoretical, applied knowledge, and professional technical certification that are much sought after such as the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming and Simulation Training and Joint Certification, and the Cisco Network Academy Programme. In addition to having a solid academic background, our students also take part in various renowned industry competitions and organized project design exhibitions every year which allow them to acquire hands-on experience. TAR College works closely with its industry partners to give the best to students so that they may function effectively in today's high pressure and rapidly changing environment.
